John C. Knox, a Chartered Financial Analyst, served as a Managing Director and investment advisor and trustee for over 30 years at H.M. Payson & Co., Portland, Maine. Most recently he served as Chairman of H. M. Payson’s Fiduciary Services Committee, the governing committee for the firm’s trust operations. He has been an investment advisor to individuals and institutions and a trustee for multi-generational family trusts. Mr. Knox is a graduate of Hamilton College with a BA in English. He received the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1985.
John C. Downing, a Chartered Financial Analyst, served as a Managing Director and investment advisor for over 29 years at H. M. Payson & Co. In addition to his responsibilities as an investment advisor, Mr. Downing served as Chief Compliance Officer and Treasurer for many years at H.M. Payson. Mr. Downing holds an MBA in Finance from the University Of Chicago School Of Business and a BS, Cum Laude, in Civil Engineering from Duke University. He received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1995.
Both Mr. Knox and Mr. Downing have extensive experience in portfolio management and investment research. As research analysts, they have covered diverse industries including consumer products, health care, energy, industrials, basic materials, utilities and telecommunications. In addition to managing individual and institutional client portfolios, they each have experience managing common stock mutual funds. Mr. Downing was most recently a co-manager of the Payson Total Return Fund and Mr. Knox managed the Payson Value Fund for many years.
